Addictions and Dependency

Addictions and Dependency

Be kind to everyone because we are all fighting battles seen and unseen. Society today displays addictions as only a stronghold to drugs and alcohol. Addictions go beyond those two things. Some addictions can be easily disguised as a hobby and may not be noticeable in the beginning until they start negatively impacting your daily lives. Once you become dependent on something so much that you become counterproductive without it, you may need to reconsider your relationship with it.

Here is a list of the most overlooked or disguised addictions:

  • Gambling
  • Alcohol
  • Social media
  • Pornography
  • Smoking
  • Work
  • Being wasteful with money
  • Gossiping
  • Exercise
  • Drugs
  • Coffee
  • Hoarding
  • Food
  • Sex
  • Video games
  • Procrastination

Are any of the addictions above impacting your life in a counterproductive way or affecting your relationship with others? If so, do some self-reflection, or seek help from a close family member, friend, or professional. Take the necessary steps to take your power back and gain control of your life.

Recovery from addiction can be challenging as it takes constant patience and maintenance. Mistakes are an essential part of life, so don’t fear them. It’s okay to make mistakes on your path to recovery as long as you learn from them.
