Tips for Surviving the Thanksgiving Holiday

Thanksgiving is the official start of the holidays. This is where family and friends gather to fellowship, eat, and make memories. This year will probably look a little different than other thanksgivings because of the pandemic. With, that still does not stop all the delicious foods from being eaten. Here are a few tips to stay on course during thanksgiving.
Water
Hydration is always important. Do not skip out on drinking water throughout the thanksgiving holiday. Water is already beneficial for our skin, digestive system, and body because it keeps it in check. If you are drinking alcohol during this season, counter it with an 8-ounce glass of water. Consuming water is also a great way to make your body feel full. If you are always feeling hungry throughout this time, drink a glass a water before or after you eat to keep you from overeating.
Stay Active
Exercise is especially important for our health. Even if you walk 30 minutes a day, your body appreciates when you take care of it. The week of thanksgiving do not skip your workout. Stay on track with your goals. Clean the house or put on some music and dance in order to burn calories. Dancing is great after you have eaten that big meal because it gets you moving so your food can settle. Even the day of thanksgiving, go for a morning walk or run so your workout it already done before the festivities begin. Do not throw all your hard work away in one day. Our family likes to go for a family walk with the dogs at the end of the day to walk off our big meal.
Don’t Skip Meals
I have done this before plenty of times. I would not eat all day until it was time to eat the thanksgiving meal at 4pm. This was a big mistake. Eat a small breakfast or lunch, but do not skip it. You want to avoid skipping breakfast andlunch because when it is time to eat at dinner, you are not going to be able to eat as much as you planned to.
Take it One Plate at a Time
It is normal for us to grab a plate and attempt to pack it sky high…do not do that. Start with one plate and only get items that you are going to eat at that time. No desserts or extra sides. What do you want to eat right now? If after you have eaten that first plate of food, you are still hungry, go back and do the exact thing but do not pack your plate.
Even though this year may look different, you can still enjoy your family traditions during Thanksgiving. I hope these tips help you and I hope you enjoy your thanksgiving.
